आलोक Finding Joy in Life आलोक
It is inevitable that dogs will seep into this project, because rescue was a huge part of my life for 36 years. Dog rescue was the motivating factor behind Aloka Botanicals.
I had used holistic techniques, herbs and oils while doing rescue, both for myself and the dogs, primarily to calm them. After retiring from the Director possition in October, 2025 I had the time to explore new things in life, and to look for a new way of supporting myself with meaningful work.
A few friends told me that Aloka sounded Hawaiian. But it's roots are very different. The Sanskrit word, āloka primarily means light, brightness, splendor or vision. It symbolizes the light of wisdom that clears away the darkness of ignorance, the clarity gained from mindfulness, and the inner awakening of the mind. The work with essential oils and herbs takes me to a deep, rich inner space. I love the learning and the processes. It has been wonderful to share the knowledge, and the products with friends.
One of the best parts of this process has been creating herbal products and sending them to friends. So much good has come to them, and it confirms the integrity of this work. I plan to expand my offerings, and make these available to those who can really benefit from the energy and blessing of the oil they are using.
Note: My first Essential oil blends were for the dogs, due to the extreme fear, anxiety and reactive behavior they face when entering a shelter and often a new home. Initially I wanted to expand the oils for cats and other animals. While it's possible, it IS complicated. I would use the dog oils cautiously, and even essential oils in a diffuser if you have birds or cats in the home. They can be negatively impacted by the oils. I'm always happy to answer questions, and especially love to help people use these oils on their dogs and to enhance their own lives.
